- Mattoon AM “Hands” – Ms. Mattoon’s class is learning through play with “hands on” exploration. They spend their day learning through play-based activities inside and outside the classroom. The world is theirs to explore. They are learning and growing so much each day!

- Hahm “Feelings” – In Social Studies the kindergarteners explored a variety of different feelings and they discussed how to recognize feelings from facial expressions and body language. In their technology class the students learned the parts of a camera and techniques to take quality pictures. They loved posing and capturing each other’s “feelings”!

- Schumacher “Going Green” – Mrs. Schumacher’s class went green…literally. They searched high and low to capture all things “green” at Metcalf. This collage represents their desire to be good stewards for our planet, “Earth Keepers.”
- Wutz “School Days” – Mrs. Wutz’s first graders love being at Metcalf! They explored all of their special school moments with each other. Then the students captured images to highlight those favorite Metcalf memories.
- Gordon “Hope” – Mrs. Gordon’s class studied butterflies during science at the beginning of the school year, and explored the transformation of a butterfly during metamorphosis. Second graders discussed the idea of hope, and described in writing what hope means to them. “Hope” depicts the moment a butterfly landed on each child, and shows the enthusiasm our students have for science and nature.
- Lockhart “Happy Feet” – Mrs. Lockhart’s class studied butterflies during science at the beginning of the school year, and explored the transformation of a butterfly during metamorphosis. Over the course of the school year, our second graders grow and transform as learners and good citizens.
- Collier “Unique” – Ms. Collier’s class discussed the idea of being unique. Students used ink to press their fingerprints on paper, and expressed their individuality with their portraits.
- Maubach “Beginnings” – Mrs. Maubach’s class studied Pioneer times and learned about school in our country’s early days. Students visited the one-room schoolhouse on campus, created crafts, studied school subjects and learned about how pioneers were brave and creative. “Beginnings” shows our third graders dressed as pioneers and includes images of their unit of pioneer studies.
- Howe “Empathy” – Mrs. Howe’s fourth grade class has been exploring feelings and empathy this year as part of our Second Step social and emotional curriculum. Empathy, as our fourth graders can tell you, is like walking in someone else’s shoes to understand how they feel. The fourth graders captured photographs of themselves and their shoes in order to represent empathy.

- Adams “My Metcalf” – Mr. Adams’ class asked to represent their favorite spots at Metcalf, and posed around the school to show off their talents. Students created drawings that symbolize the value of reading, the arts, and athletics, and these drawings are woven into their photographs to form the composition.
- Reeser “Beauty in Nature” – Ms. Reeser’s class chose to photograph the beauty they find in the Butterfly Garden. Among the trees and flowers you can see our fifth graders appreciating the beauty around them. As a whole class, the students created a collaborative drawing that forms the background for their images.
- Kane “My Favorite Things” – Each sixth grade student chose one important or favorite thing to hold in their hands and worked with Ms. Kane to capture a photograph. You can even spot the teacher hands as well! Can you guess the student by what they are holding dear to them?

- Basolo “Discovery” – Seventh graders in Mr. Basolo’s classroom collaborated to come up with the idea for the Basolo Channel, based off of the Discovery Channel, and are depicted during a science class lab experiment. So many new discoveries are made in middle school and our students are continuously full of wonder each year.
- Stalets “Peace, Love, and Friendship” – Seventh graders in Mrs. Stalets’ class captured photographs of each other in order to represent their strong friendships. Look closely and you will see their hands creating the peace and love signs in the collage.
- Davenport “Nature” – The eighth grade class immortalized an all-time favorite learning experience, Outdoor Ed. Survival techniques, night hikes, canoeing, horseback riding, and core classes; these memories will forever burn bright in their hearts.
